The Strategy sub-team will mainly be focusing on the driving strategy this year. A driving strategy tells you when to brake and when to accelerate, or, for example, how to drive corners. To find the best driving strategies for the most efficient race, the existing optimization model will be expanded. This model determines the optimal moment for accelerating and braking resulting in minimal fuel consumption. This year’s main focus will be on developing a real-time driving strategy: a driving strategy which can be adapted during the race.
Hi everyone! My name is Carmen Tretmans and I am 21 years old. Last year, I started my master’s in Applied Mathematics. Since this is quite theoretical, I decided I wanted to do something practical this year. I am a supporter of green energy and love mathematics. That’s how I ended up being the Strategist at Green Team Twente. As a strategist I will mainly focus on the driving strategy and try to answer questions, like: What is the optimal speed of the car during a race? Or, when is it most efficient to accelerate or brake? I will try to answer these questions by modelling the car and its movement. By answering these questions, I hope to find the most efficient driving strategy with which we can win the Shell Eco Marathon.
