Shell Eco-marathon
Green Team Twente competes within the Shell Eco-marathon. This is a unique competition that challenges students around the world to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient car. With three annual events in Asia, America and Europe, student teams compete on efficiency, i.e. who can drive farthest on the least amount of fuel.
The competition is split into two classes, the Prototype class and Urban Concept class. Cars in the prototype class are about the ultimate performance. Cars in the Urban Concept cars compete on the design and use. This involves the development of the car of the future. Among these two main classes, the different fuels are divided in multiple sub classes. For example, cars can be driven on conventional gasoline and diesel, ethanol, GTL, hydrogen and accumulators. Green Team Twente is a participant in the Urban Concept class using hydrogen as a fuel.
Each team has multiple attempts to be the most fuel efficient on the track.
