WHAT IS HYDROGEN NEXT?

Hydrogen next is an interactive week full of hydrogen related activities. These activities show you the future of hydrogen through the eyes of Green Team Twente. Hydrogen Next will take place from the 29th of June till the 3rd of July 2020. Each day has its own theme and will tell you more about Green Team Twente, the Shell Eco-Marathon and hydrogen.

All the activities are digital and can be attended for free without enrolment. More information about the events can be read on this page and on our social media channels.

OUR NEW HYDROGEN CAR | Monday the 29th of June

AURORA 3 CAR REVEAL | 12:00 | Live Video

We are finally ready to share the result of our year with you! The 29th of June 2020 we will be revealing the Aurora3. At 12:00 the video will go live on the Car Reveal page.

EXPLODED VIEW OF THE CAR | 12:00 | Interactive Webpage

After the reveal video you will be guided to an interactive webpage. On this webpage you can see and read more about the details of the Aurora3.

THE SHELL ECO-MARATHON | Tuesday the 30th of June

TECHNICAL INSPECTION | 12:00 | Video

Every year we have to pass a technical inspection before we can race. This is usually a nervewracking procedure. This year our car should still comply with these rules and this day we put that to the test. We asked some old team members to take a look at our car to determine if our car is ready to race.

OFF-TRACK AWARDS SHELL ECO-MARATHON CEREMONY | 19:00 | Live Online

Besides the race, we also participate in the Shell Eco-Marathon Off-Track awards. This year we have made submissions to the Vehicle Design Award and the Communication Award. Today the Shell will announce the winners of the awards live on their Instagram stories and Twitter, so fingers crossed!

HYDROGEN AS A FUEL | Wednesday the 1st of July

DRIVING ON HYDROGEN EXPLAINED | 12:00 | Animated Video

Green Team Twente believes that hydrogen is the future. However, many people do still not know how it works excactly and how you can drive a car on it. We made a video which clearly explains what hydrogen is, how you can drive on it and what its advantages are.

EXPERTS ON HYDROGEN | 20:00 | Webinar

If the video was not enough you can join the webinar with Jeremy Stone. He is currently working on a project about transporting liquid hydrogen with a ship. During the webinar, we will dive deeper into the world of hydrogen. Discussing its future as a fuel.

HYDROGEN WITIN MOBILITY | Thursday the 2nd of July

COMPANIES WORKING WITH HYDROGEN | 12:00 | Interviews

We visited two of our partners who are working on projects related to hydrogen. Which shows that the future of hydrogen as a fuel is not that far away. First, we have VDL who will show us the hydrogen busses they produced. On the other side, NLR  will tell us all about the hydrogen drone they are currently producing.

PUB QUIZ SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY | 20:00 | Live Online

Put all the knowledge you gained during the week to the test in the Pub Quiz about Sustainable Mobility. We will do a Livestream on our YouTube Channel and answers can be submitted via Google Forms.

If you want to join the pub quiz, the only thing you need is a team and a way to stay in contact with each other. Make sure to be ready at 20:00 because then we will go live. Shortly before the pub quiz, we will share the links of the Google Forms. At the end of the pub quiz, we will know which team knows most about sustainable mobility. The winning will be rewarded with a price!

FOLLOW OUR JOURNEY | Friday the 3rd of July

INTRODUCTION TEAM 2021 | 12:00 | T.B.A.

Under normal circumstances, this day would have been the last day of the Shell Eco-Marathon and we would have known if we got to keep our championship titles. Luckily, there will be a new team that will take up this challenge next year and today they will introduce themselves to you.

HISTORY & ACHIEVEMENTS GREEN TEAM TWENTE | 16:00 | T.B.A.

Over the years Green Team Twente has come a long way. Today we will look back on all these years and see what we have already achieve. Something that we are proud to be part of.

2019 - 2020

This years the team focused on organizing the inside structure and designing more ergonomic and compact components. Furthermore, the hub motor was introduced in the system and a screen showing data collecting for a real-time driving strategy.

2018 - 2019

The focus was on making the car more reliable, and bring hydrogen and the team to the next level. The drivetrain and electric components were redesigned.  And the weight of the body was reduced to less than 100 kgs. This all led to becoming world champions!

2017 - 2018

For almost six years the colours of the team were red with a burning wheel as logo, but this team changed the identity and changed the colour to green. Besides they build a new car, the Aurora One, with a sleek aerodynamic design.

2016 - 2017

This year focused on the reliability of the car. They created a special PCB-design on the body to give the car a nice face. They had a fully integrated dashboard on the steering wheel, a new ultra-efficient gearbox and a real-time data system in the cloud.

2015 - 2016

The body was redesigned this year to make it stiffer and lighter. Thereby the powertrain was adjusted so that just one wheel was driven instead of two to achieve a more efficient transmission. This also was the first year to practice driving strategy.

2014 - 2015

During this year a whole new hydrogen system was introduced, it was a custom-made fuel cell system. Besides a new body was designed, focusing on improving the aerodynamics of the body for more efficiency.

2013 - 2014

The goal of this year was to promote Green Team throughout the whole University to expand the borders to more different studies. This year’s work includes carbon rimes to minimize the weight of the car.

2012 - 2013

This is the first year the team consisted of multiple studies what resulted in innovation on multiple fronts. They started re-creating the electronic system and make sure various components could communicate with each other.

2011 - 2012

The team started as an initiative of W.S.G. Isaac Newton, it was a project to show that hydrogen is a viable alternative to fossil fuels. The team managed to set a great result in the first year which got them the first place.

Economy races

Back then it was called the Shell Efficiency marathon and took place on the campus of the University of Twente. The team back then won twice (1980 and 1981), but they drove on gasoline instead of hydrogen.
