UTmotive at the fotoshoot for TenCate

The UTmotive, the car that won the Shell Eco-marathon last year, has some strong points. For example, we have saved weight with a thin carbon body, a chassis with a single central aluminium tube and a suspension made out of carbon, we can regain braking energy with our hub motor and we save fuel with an advanced controlling system. This year, a new team will try to improve the car and win the Shell Eco-marathon again.

Team

Green Team Twente 2013 The team consists of 7 members, below they each introduce themselves.

Teun Bartelds
Role: Chairman, Propulsion/Bodywork
My name is Teun Bartelds, 20 years old and I just finished my Bachelor Advanced Technology last summer. Next year I will continue with the Robotics and Mechatronics track from the Master Control Engineering, but first I will focus on winning the Shell Eco Challenge. To keep the cup in Enschede we formed a strong team out of both mechanical and electrical engineers. I am really looking forward to putting my knowledge into practice and work on this great car to make it even greener! Teun You can reach anything,  but not everything in life!

Martijn Schouten
Role: Secretary, Propulsion/Electronics
My name is Martijn Schouten and I’m a second-year Electrical Engineering student. I see the Shell Eco marathon as a great opportunity to gain more experience with working on bigger projects. I also think it is very nice to be able to use the skills I learned during my study in such an awesome project. Last year’s car was great, but on the other hand there are still a lot of things for us to improve. Martijn Go for the best, it will only make things better

Simon Veenstra
Role: Treasurer, Frame/Bodywork
I am Simon Veenstra, a master student in Mechanical Engineering at the Production Technology department. The Shell Eco Marathon is a great opportunity to apply my knowledge and gain more experience. We have a good foundation to build upon and to improve to equal last year’s performance and increase the efficiency. Simon

Jorn Reijmer
Role: External relations, Frame/Bodywork
My name is Jorn Reijmer, I’m 21 years old and s I’m currently in the third year of my Mechanical Engineering bachelor. Besides this interesting, but very theoretical study I think it will be enjoyable and informative to also experience the practical side of mechanical engineering. By participating with this team in the Shell Eco-marathon I can turn knowledge into practice. The car of last year forms a good basis for further development, because even though the team of last year finished first in its category, there still will be plenty of improvements for us to make. Jorn

Martijn Dekker
Role: External relations, Frame/Bodywork

Roel Mentink
Role: PR & Website, Propulsion/Electronics
My name is Roel Mentink and I am a second year Electrical Engineering student at the University of Twente. Besides this I will build, together with the rest of the team, an even more fuel-efficient car then last year, and hopefully win the Shell Eco Challenge again. Roel

Robin Lohuis
Role: PR & Website, Propulsion/Electronics
My name is Robin Lohuis, 19 years old and I’m a second year Electrical Engineering student. Within the team I’m responsible for the propulsion and the electronics. I’m also responsible for maintaining the website and PR. I hope that we can build a more efficient car this year and, of course, win again in Rotterdam. Robin
